About the Development of Basketball

development of basketball

The development of basketball dates back to 1891, when Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian-born physical education teacher at Springfield College in Massachusetts, invented the sport. Naismith wanted to find a sport suitable for indoors in winter, so he designed a game of throwing the ball into a basket suspended in the air.

1949: The BAA merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) to form the National Basketball Association (NBA), which has since grown rapidly to become one of the top professional basketball leagues in the world, attracting some of the best basketball players in the world.

Modern Basketball
